Amazon Promo Code Not Working? 9 Reasons and Fixes

You found a great deal, typed the code, hit Apply, and nothing happened. Frustrating, but almost always fixable. Here are the nine most common reasons an Amazon promo code fails, in the order you should check them.

1. The code has expired

Sellers set an end date on every promotion, and many run only 24 to 72 hours. If the deal was posted more than a day or two ago, this is the likely reason. Fix: check today’s list for the current codes.

2. The code has been fully claimed

Most promotions also have a redemption limit. A popular deal can hit its limit within hours even though the end date is days away. Fix: none, other than being faster next time. Follow our accounts and turn on notifications.

3. You are on the wrong variant

A code usually applies to one specific size, color, pack size or model. If you switched variants on the product page, the code will not work. Fix: open the product through the original deal link and do not change the selection.

4. Your cart item is from a different seller

The same product can be sold by several sellers on one listing. The code belongs to one of them. If Amazon put a different seller’s offer in your cart, the code fails. Fix: on the product page click “Other sellers” or “New & Used from” and pick the seller named in the deal, or use our link, which points to the right offer.

5. You already used the code

Most promo codes are one per customer, and Amazon remembers. Fix: none, and do not try to bypass it with extra accounts, which violates Amazon’s terms.

6. Typo, extra space or wrong character

Zero versus the letter O, one versus the letter I, or a stray space when you paste. Fix: retype the code by hand, then click Apply again.

7. Quantity or minimum purchase rules

Some promotions require a minimum quantity, or apply only to a single unit. Fix: adjust the quantity in your cart to match what the deal says, then re-apply.

8. Subscribe & Save or another promotion is in the way

If you selected Subscribe & Save, or another coupon is already applied, the seller may have set the promotions not to combine. Fix: switch to a one-time purchase, remove the other coupon, and try the code again. If you want the Subscribe & Save price, compare which discount is bigger.

9. Shipping address or region restrictions

Promotions on Amazon.com are set up for US customers and often cannot be used with an address outside the US, or with certain shipping options. Fix: make sure a US address is selected at checkout.

Still not working?

Start over: remove the item from your cart, open the product through the deal link again, add it, and enter the code before choosing any subscription or extra options. If the discount still does not show in your order summary, the code is most likely gone. Do not place the order expecting a refund later; the price at checkout is final.
